Sri Lanka delivered a powerful showcase of its tourism potential at the World Travel Market (WTM) 2025, held recently at ExCel London, marking one of its strongest international showings in recent years. In partnership with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB), the High Commission of Sri Lanka in London coordinated a delegation of 92 travel and tourism partners, reflecting the industry’s renewed confidence and momentum.

The Sri Lanka Pavilion bustled with activity throughout the three-day event, serving as a hub for B2B meetings, networking, and global collaboration. Industry leaders, tour operators, and hospitality professionals engaged with Sri Lankan representatives to explore opportunities in a market where demand for experiential and sustainable travel continues to rise.

Opening the Pavilion, High Commissioner Nimal Senadheera praised the industry’s collective effort, noting that Sri Lanka had already welcomed over 1.8 million visitors in 2025, with the UK firmly holding its position as the island’s second-largest source market at more than 170,000 arrivals by October. He emphasised that the strong presence at WTM demonstrated Sri Lanka’s commitment to reinforcing its place as a premier global destination.

The Pavilion also received a visit from The Lord Hannett of Everton OBE, the UK’s Trade Envoy to Sri Lanka, who applauded the enduring partnership between the two countries and underscored the importance of deepening cooperation across trade, tourism, and cultural exchange.

SLTPB Chairman Buddhika Hewawasam highlighted Sri Lanka’s sharpened focus on sustainability, wellness tourism, and wildlife experiences—pillars he described as essential to delivering responsible, high-quality growth in the sector.

A well-attended press conference on 5 November added further momentum, drawing leading UK media and travel journalists. Discussions spotlighted government priorities, improved global connectivity via SriLankan Airlines, and new sustainable tourism initiatives. Speakers included High Commissioner Senadheera, SLTPB officials, SriLankan Airlines representatives, and leaders from SLAITO, THASL, and the British Guild of Travel Writers.

Visitors to the Pavilion enjoyed traditional dance performances and the signature flavour of Ceylon Tea, offering an authentic glimpse into Sri Lanka’s cultural and hospitality heritage.

Sri Lanka’s presence at WTM 2025 reaffirmed the island’s reputation as a resilient, dynamic, and welcoming destination—one ready to inspire travellers and expand global tourism partnerships in the year ahead.
