Cyclone Ditwah, which developed from a low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal, made landfall between 27 and 28 November and delivered heavy rainfall across Sri Lanka.

The central highlands experienced the greatest impact. Kandy, Sri Lanka’s cultural heart, suffered the most severe effects, while Badulla, Nuwara Eliya, and Matale also faced significant flooding and landslides. In the Western Province, widespread flooding affected both Gampaha and Colombo districts.

That said, most of Sri Lanka’s popular tourist areas were spared significant disruption and continue to operate normally, extending a warm welcome to visitors. While recovery continues in the affected zones, the great majority of attractions, hotels, and services across the country are fully open and delighted to showcase the heartfelt hospitality for which Sri Lanka is renowned.
