The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Jakarta, along with partners including SriLankan Airlines and Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, arranged the first post-COVID19 familiarization tour to promote Sri Lanka as a preferred destination for Indonesian Buddhists.
A group of 11 travelers embarked on a journey from July 31 to August 9 to explore Sri Lanka’s cultural and spiritual sites. Despite Indonesia’s predominantly Islamic population, the country has a significant Buddhist community of over 2 million people. This initiative aims to strengthen cultural ties, showcasing Sri Lanka’s heritage and landscapes. The tour includes visits to iconic places like the Temple of the Tooth Relic, Ella, Negombo, Galle, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, and Dambulla Temple. Social media influencer Alicia Yudos and Indonesian Buddhist leader Wenny Lo are part of the group, sharing experiences to promote Sri Lanka.

The participants funded the tour themselves, underscoring their enthusiasm for cultural exchange. The efforts of various individuals and entities, including the Sri Lankan Embassy, SriLankan Airlines, Jetwing Travels, and SLTPB, contributed to making this journey possible, with hopes of welcoming more Indonesian Buddhists to Sri Lanka in the future.
