President Ranil Wickremesinghe has announced the short-term plans of the Sri Lankan Government to develop tourism down south.

The aim is to create a single tourist zone and special economic area by combining the stretch from Bentota to Hungama and the interior of about seven to eight miles. The President stated that they plan to develop both low-rise buildings closer to the beach and high-rise buildings at the back. Additionally, Galle town, Balapitiya, and Koggala will be developed for high-rise buildings. The Government has also planned various events such as music festivals, fashion weeks, and carnivals to promote Sri Lanka as a tourist destination.

The President has requested the support and ideas of the industry stakeholders to take these plans further.
