The Australian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Paul Stephens, has partnered with the Tertiary Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) to launch district skills development plans aimed at boosting tourism in Anuradhapura and Matale. Developed with input from industry and government stakeholders, these plans
address tourism-related economic challenges and opportunities for inclusive growth.

They involve collaboration between the private sector, government bodies, and training institutions to bridge skills gaps, particularly in digital skills, culinary arts, business coaching, hotel operations, and tour guiding. The plans aim to create jobs, especially for women and persons with disabilities, while a culinary training facility at NAITA Anuradhapura will nurture aspiring chefs, further benefiting the tourism sector. High Commissioner Stephens praised these initiatives as key to sustainable development and economic growth in Sri Lanka, especially in the tourism and hospitality sectors.
