The Sri Lanka Embassy in France, together with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, recently held a media briefing to showcase the country’s many attractions and highlight that Sri Lanka is once again open for tourism. The event was attended by over 25 French travel and tourism media personnel and aimed to encourage them to explore Sri Lanka as their next travel destination, not only to visit but also to market to their audiences. The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to France, Manisha Gunesekera, emphasized that Sri Lanka is vibrant and welcoming and highlighted the measures taken by the government to ensure the comfort and safety of tourists, including women travelers.

Sri Lankan Airlines Country Manager for France, Asiri Wickramasuriya, made a presentation on the quality of service offered to French travelers and the efficacy of connectivity provided between Paris and Colombo by the airline. The Embassy also presented a tourism video showcasing Sri Lanka’s multifaceted attractions as a top tourism destination in the world, with a focus on areas of special interest to French travelers.

France is among the top five source markets for tourism in Sri Lanka, with 16,744 tourists from France visiting Sri Lanka during the first three months of 2023, accounting for 5% of total tourist arrivals for the period. The event was supported by the First Secretary / Commerce of the Embassy, Gayan Rajapakse, and was a success in showcasing the developing steps being taken to develop the tourism industry in Sri Lanka.
