Sri Lanka gears up for World Tourism Day with a series of special events

Sri Lanka’s tourism industry is preparing for World Tourism Day 2023, which falls on 27 September. The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) is organizing events to focus on green investments and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the sector. The event, organized by the United States
Agency for International Development (USAID) Indo-Pacific Opportunity Project (IPOP), aims to enhance the competitiveness of MSMEs, encourage them to embark on their sustainability journey, and promote business-to-business networking.

The official World Tourism Day celebration will take place on 27 September at Marino Beach Hotel, Colombo, highlighting the role of tourism in fostering socio cultural exchange, economic growth, and sustainable development. The theme, “Tourism and Green Investments,” emphasizes the importance of investing in people, the planet, and prosperity within the tourism industry. Sri Lanka is expected to receive one million tourists on 27 September, marking a significant milestone after the COVID-19 pandemic. The SLTDA and SLTPB are organizing a special reception to welcome the one millionth tourist.
