The Sri Lankan Embassy in Iran, in partnership with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, showcased Sri Lanka’s tourism potential at the 13th International Tourism and Related Industries Exhibition in Shiraz from January 3- 6, 2024. This marked the Embassy’s inaugural tourism promotion event outside Tehran. The Sri Lanka pavilion garnered significant attention, raising awareness about the country’s attractions among Iranian visitors and industry experts. Notable figures like Iran’s Deputy Minister of Tourism expressed interest in Sri Lanka.

Discussions between Sri Lanka’s Ambassador and the Deputy Governor for Tourism of Fars Province emphasized the importance of strengthening trade and cultural relations between Iran and Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka’s diverse attractions, recognized by Forbes as the fourth most popular solo travel destination in 2024, were highlighted. Plans for a familiarization tour for Sri Lankan travel agencies in Fars Province in 2024 were discussed. With a remarkable 140% increase in Iranian tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka in 2023, the Embassy anticipates a further rise, particularly during the Nowruz season in March 2024. Additionally, the Embassy utilized the exhibition to promote Sri Lankan agricultural exports, including Ceylon Tea.
