Amidst flight disruptions, Turkish Airlines has decided to increase the frequency of flights between Istanbul and Colombo by two additional flights per week to assist stranded tourists and enable travellers’ access to Sri Lanka.

Following diplomatic discussions between Sri Lanka and Türkiye, the initiative was positively received, and after Turkish Airlines’ decision, the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka granted the necessary permissions within a short period of time.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka is seeking to invite foreign airlines to use Mattala as a parking facility or for flight operations during the crisis time.

The airport has facilities for parking eight to ten aircrafts.
