Sri Lanka shines at BIT-2024 Travel Fair in Milan, Italy

The 44th edition of BIT – Borsa Internazionale del Turismo, organized by Fiera Milano, concluded on February 6 with strong attendance from the public and satisfaction from over 1,100 exhibitors from 66 countries. The event facilitated 8,585 one-to-one meetings, a 15% increase from 2023. BIT 2024 showcased various categories such as sustainable tourism, luxury vacations, and local travel, attracting industry professionals from across Europe. The Sri Lanka Pavilion at BIT featured 12 destination management companies and highlighted the country’s tourism offerings, including wildlife themes and traditional Sri Lankan sweet treats.

The pavilion also featured cultural dancing performances, drawing a large Italian audience. SLTPB Managing Director Nalin Perera and Sri Lanka’s Consular General to Milan Dilani Weerakoon were present at the opening ceremony, along with other industry members. Additionally, Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau organized networking sessions with tour operators and media personnel in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Consulate General in Milan. Italy remains an important market for Sri Lanka, with total arrivals recorded at 22,242 in 2023.
